Ingredients Further Explained:

Calendula

Calendula is a very safe and gentle herb to use on babies and little children. Used traditionally in Europe since Ancient times, Calendula is renowned for its healing effects on conditions such as eczema, burns and acne. The active compounds in the herb is absorbed from the epidermal layer of skin, exerting antiseptic, antibacterial, antifungal and wound healing actions on the skin. Calendula also stimulates collagen growth and improves cell regeneration. One study compared creams using Calendula extract and hydrocortisone, finding that Calendula was more effective against Irritant Contact Dermatitis.

Gotu kola

Gotu kola is a traditional Indian herb used for thousands of years on psoriatic conditions and bleeding wounds. As powerful as it may sound, it is also very gentle and safe to use on babies and children. The herb exerts anti-inflammatory effects through its active compound Asiaticoside, which is also a very great scar healer. The herb is very cooling and helps with burns and hot rashes.

Licorice

Licorice has been used since ancient times in Egypt, China, India, Rome and Greece for skin lesions, wounds and rashes. Studies have associated licorice use with improvements in conditions such as contact dermatitis, psoriasis, and other inflammatory skin conditions. Now beginning to gain a reputation for itself as a ‘natural corticosteroid,’ Licorice is safe for use with babies and children, and also has antimicrobial effects, particularly against Staphylococcus aureus, the organism which causes Golden Staff. Licorice has also been found to be effective in fighting yeast infections, and Malassezia, the fungus associated with scalp eczema.

Aloe vera

Aloe vera is very gentle, soothing and cooling for babies and children. The polysaccharides in aloe vera gel help to moisturise skin cells and form a strong barrier on the epidermal layer of skin, as well as regenerating collagen and elastin in the dermal layer. Aloe vera also has strong antibacterial, antifungal and cooling actions. Aloe extract cream has been clinically tested to improve psoriasis in over 80% of adult patients over a 16 week trial. The effect should be equal, if not better, in babies and children. Aloe vera also has antimicrobial activities against Golden Staff, yeast infections, Malassezia and chicken pox.

Manuka Honey

Manuka Honey is unique to other forms of honey because of its Unique Manuka Factor (UMF). Hospitals have been using Manuka Honey with UMF10+ to treat wounds and prevent secondary infections. Manuka Honey is also one of the most potent antioxidant honeys available. Manuka Honey has been tested against a variety of strains of drug-resistant bacteria, in particular Staphylococcus aureus (Golden Staff), one of the most common secondary infections experienced by eczema sufferers. Manuka Honey is safe and gentle for babies and children who do not have bee or honey allergies.

Cleanser

When choosing a gentle cleanser for your baby with measles, it is best to avoid products containing:

  • Sodium-Lauryl-Sulfate (SLS)
  • Artificial fragrances
  • Artificial colours
  • Petro-chemicals
  • Propylene Glycol
  • Lanolin
  • Coal tar
  • Parabens

Some soaps may claim that they are free from all these things, yet still contain a soap formula which is far too high in pH for babies’ skin.

Hope’s Relief’s cleansing products are all formulated with natural pH buffers, which means that they will adjust the pH of the ingredients combined to match that of the skin environment upon which it is being placed upon.

How they clean, naturally:

Hope’s Relief Cleansing Bar

At least 3 times less drying than Nivea or Johnson’s baby soaps, which all have pH’s of above 10, this cleansing bar is enriched with herbal actives Calendula, Manuka Honey and Aloe vera to provide a gentle, non-irritating cleanse.

Hope’s Relief Goat’s Milk Soap

Goats Milk is a pure and natural product and has been proven to be perfect for dry sensitive skins and especially skins prone to eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis. Goats Milk has 3 times more beta-casein than cow’s milk. Caseins are easily absorbed into the skin and allow for quick hydration of dry skin. Goats Milk contains caprylicacid which brings the pH closer to human skin. Safe and gentle for babies’ skin, Goat’s Milk contains Vitamins A, B6, B12, E, as well as minerals Calcium and Magnesium to help rebuild and regenerate healthy skin cells.

Hope’s Relief Goat’s Milk Body Wash

The Goat’s Milk Body Wash has just as much benefits as the Goat’s Milk soap, and is simply a matter of personal preference as to the form of cleansing product that is suited to your cleansing needs.

Directions of Use:

Create a small lather with warm water and rinse clean. Not recommended to bathe baby in soapy water for longer than 15 minutes.

Moisturiser

A natural moisturiser for babies with measles is best when it is free from other synthetic or chemical additives such as:

  • Artificial colours
  • Artificial fragrance
  • Petro-chemicals

Some natural product fanatics may even go as far as to say, “If you wouldn’t eat it, why would you put it on your skin?”

The reality is that whatever is being applied to skin topically, gets absorbed into the bloodstream and therefore has effects in the body as either a nutrient for building better, stronger cells, or as a pollutant which causes the liver and kidneys to work harder to excrete the toxins from the body (let alone with sensitive bubs, may also be triggers to further inflammation and making the rashes worse).

Hope’s Relief Hydrating Body Lotion is a gentle, safe and wonderfully intense moisturising lotion that is safe for babies and children, filled with the nutritious benefits of Mango, Shea, Olives, Gotu kola, Calendula, and Grapeseed. With all these nutrients combined, Hope’s Relief Hydrating Body Lotion helps to repair and nourish babies’ skin whilst also penetrating deeply to restore elasticity and regenerate new skin cells, leaving babies’ skin soft, supple and healthy. This formula has been especially designed to help with babies and children who also have other sensitive skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis or dermatitis. It is recommended for use in combination with the Hope’s Relief Premium Eczema Cream in babies or children with such related conditions.

Directions of Use:

May be applied up to 4 – 5 times per day, as needed when skin feels dry. Measure about 1 cm diameter droplet of lotion for every 4 inches of skin to cover.
